How to Send MTN MoMo Without Leaving Your Chat
Last updated 2026-10-14
You can send MTN MoMo in chat the same way you send a text. Open the conversation, tap the cedi button, type the amount, confirm with your PIN. The money lands as a bubble in the thread, with a receipt both of you can see. No app switching, no shortcodes, no copying numbers into a different screen.
That is the whole trick. Money becomes a message type, not a separate errand.
Here is the flow in SprinTelex, step by step. First, open the chat with the person you want to pay. This works in one to one chats and in groups. Second, tap the cedi icon in the message bar. Third, enter the amount and pick the wallet: MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, or AT Money. Fourth, confirm. The payment sends and shows up in the conversation like any other message, marked paid with a timestamp.
Why this matters in daily Ghanaian life: most money requests already start in chat. "Send me 200 cedis for the taxi." "I have sent the chop money." The old way forces you to leave the chat, open the MoMo app, type the number, approve, then jump back to say "sent." Every jump is a chance to mistype a number or lose the thread. Keeping it in the chat removes all of that.
A few things people ask. Is it safe? Payments ride the same end to end encrypted channel as your messages, and every transfer carries a receipt inside the chat so there is never a "did you send it" argument. Does the other person need the app? Yes, both sides use SprinTelex, which is the point: the money lives where the conversation lives. What about fees? Standard network charges from your provider apply, the app adds nothing on top.
What does the receiver see? A message bubble with the amount, the sender, and a timestamp, plus a receipt they can open for the transaction reference. If they are offline when you send, the payment waits the same way a message waits, and lands when they reconnect. If you ever send the wrong amount, the receipt in the thread gives both sides the exact record, which makes sorting it out a two message job instead of a phone call.
It also works when your connection is weak. The app is built light on data and the payment queues the same way a message does, so a slow network delays it rather than killing it.
SprinTelex is currently in beta on iPhone through TestFlight. If sending money inside the chat sounds like something you would use every week, grab a seat at sprintelex.com and tell us what breaks.
